Because of Covid Lockdown Level 4, of course, we haven’t yet been able to have a look at the interior of our new Selwyn apartment – our viewing day last weekend was postponed . But we did see a similar one before Lockdown, and we’re sure we’ll be comfortable and happy in Apartment 532, on the 3rd floor of Caswell Block, with wide views of the Waitematā and Waitakere , and 3 minutes down a small path to the coastal walkway and a swimming beach. Tanya will hopefully have a raised garden bed , and Charmaine will have access to a community library in the village.
And we will have completed a major downsizing of personal possessions and accidental acquisitions, freeing us in spirit as well as from physical clutter. We’ll still have room for some of our favourite art works on the walls there, and perhaps will find imaginative ways of enjoying some more, by a clever system of rotation (or borrowing wall space in the corridor outside our apartment…)
Our favourite artist and whānau member, Nic Moon, has offered to come to Auckland to help us select and place our paintings and sculptures. We are really looking forward to her presence as she has been hugely helpful during our last two shifts – she has such a strong sense of artistic design as well as a very calm spirit.
We have a number of friends already living in Selwyn Village , and others nearby, and plenty of space for entertaining visitors….
So bring on the lazy days of summer and swimming and socialising again- hopefully Covid-free, and creating new lives for ourselves.
We are aware that this newsletter is focussed mainly on our very personal journey. We hope that by the time of our next newsletter we’ll be looking outwards again, and highlighting some of the challenging and inspiring things happening in the community beyond.
